Reflexology

Reflexology uses specific pressure techniques applied to the feet using the thumbs and fingers. Our internal organs and structures are mapped on our feet and this is where pressure is applied. Reflexology is a non-invasive, holistic therapy, which helps restore the natural balance of the body and may help many complaints, restoring harmony

What if we recharged ourselves as often as we do our phones?

Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic non-invasive treatment by which the feet are massaged and manipulated, stimulating 1000’s of nerve endings.

The principle of Reflexology is based on the idea that certain reflex areas on the feet mirror that of the body’s internal organs, glands and muscles, as well as the skeletal structure.

By applying pressure to certain parts of the feet, the theory is that reflexology helps to stimulate the body’s own healing process, bringing back balance, achieving physical and emotional well-being. Reflexology encourages both relaxation and stimulation and can help relieve stress/tension – encouraging deep breathing.

Reflexology improves circulation, therefore, improving oxygen flow and delivering essential nutrients to all organs and cells within the body; thus increasing efficiency

Reflexology helps increase your own body’s awareness, helps unblock trapped nervous energy; thus improving neural efficiency.

It improves waste removal; thus detoxifying the body, helping the body synchronize and re-balance under-active and overactive areas and aids well-being.

There are some suggestions that long term effects of reflexology may help conditions such as:

Stress-related conditions
Anxiety
Neck/shoulder Pain
Back Pain
Headaches
Sleep disorders
Hormonal Imbalances
Constipation

Reflexology can identify areas of tension and stress perhaps linking symptoms but it does NOT claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe; the recipient should always seek advice from their General Practitioner.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy; its purpose is used primarily to relieve stress and tension aiding deep therapeutic relaxation; it may be used to relieve both acute and chronic conditions.

Reflexology may reduce excess stress which in turn may help the mind and body to re-balance, creating better conditions and well-being during preconception and the stages of pregnancy.

Please note it is essential to consult your GP/Consultant so that all tests are carried out for both partners and a diagnosis made regarding the cause of fertility problems.

A reflexology treatment can take up to between 30 – 40 minutes. Before your initial visit a detailed Consultation Form will be required to be completed which will include essential information such as your medical history.

After discussion a treatment plan will then be tailor made to your personal needs.

You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and sit on a special reclining chair.

Your feet will then be examined to identify any contraindications such as bruising, swelling, corns, verrucas, athlete’s foot which may prevent pressure being applied to that area. In some cases, treatment may not be suitable for that individual (see below).

In addition, skin texture, nail condition, the general feet condition will be taken into consideration. An aftercare sheet will also be provided at the end of the treatment.

During treatment light, but firm, precise manipulative massage will be given to the soles and uppers of your feet using massage lotion/oil.

Sometimes people may report tiredness, may experience tingling in the body, change in sleep pattern, coldness, heat, increased energy, nausea or tearful; these symptoms indicate that the therapy is working and is part of the healing process but is transitory.

PLEASE NOTE after treatment some patients may feel tired and it is suggested that no physical exertions are undertaken after treatment.

There are several reasons why Reflexology may be unsuitable, some of which are due to medical conditions.

Therefore, it is important you preview the ‘Contraindications’ section below.
